Following Jesus involved many thrilling and challenging experiences for Simon Peter. Being part of Jesus’ ministry throughout Israel, then witnessing the agony of his death on the cross in Jerusalem, and then experiencing the joy of his resurrection forever changed his life. Then there was outpouring of the Holy Spirit, the birth of the Church, and the continual spread of the gospel message from Jerusalem to people and lands beyond. In writing his first letter, Peter sought to encourage believers about their identity in Christ and instruct them in walking out their faith.  His words encourage and instruct us still today.
